Let me start off by saying that conceptually, based on what I have seen so far, this server is nearly perfect for me, and I've never found a server in the entirety of NWN that I've felt catered specifically to what I wanted. One server that came close was EFU, and I still enjoy that server from time to time, but it sort of lacks the streamlined pvp experience that I desire. EFU PvP happened a lot of the time, and it was very thrilling because it can happen almost anywhere, and your character could literally die, permanently at any given moment.
IoP seems to have everything I am looking for, for the very first time. It has the customization and some of the freedoms that social PWs have, but what's great about that point is that it refines those freedoms into a setting that is believable, and it is the first server with social motifs that I have seen that strives to bring consequence and a dynamic world to the table, as opposed to a glorified virtual chat room that is completely static.
It boasts streamlined pvp in a level 20 environment that requires no grind to get to without forsaking completely the concept of pve. This is perfect for me. I hate epic levels but I love to build characters and I think that level 14-20 are the sweetspot in NWN. I also think that, from an IC standpoint, level 20 is more realistic and you won't have people walking around that are borderline demigods whilst having the character sheet to back it up.
A blend of social and roleplay concepts, streamlined pvp, a lack of pve leveling grind, the perfect amount of levels, both mechanically and from a roleplay standpoint, and the objective of a dynamic world that players can impact and change and will change on its own merit. It almost sounds too good to be true because this is literally what I've been looking for all these years.
But will it have a playerbase? I know that such a thing is difficult to predict. I'm worried that it will alienate players. It will alienate roleplayers who don't like social PWs. It will alienate social players who want total freedom with their characters. It will alienate players who enjoy the leveling process (for whatever reason..) For me, it seems like the ideal niche, but it is a spiritual successor to a server who's community is used to something that is almost completely different. Are you worried that the lack of level 40, and the lack of creative freedoms that social players are used to will alienate them?

First off I'd like to apologize for not replying sooner. I must have missed this when I went over the forums yesterday. You asked if we will have a playerbase, the answer is yes. We actually have a lot of people who ask us almost weekly when we are going to release. A lot of people are excited to see all the work we've been putting into this project in the last year. How do we know there will be a player base for it, well when we first came up with the idea we had to have everything OK'd first. Mav wanted to make sure that people would be interested in the server before allowing us to use the space. We had to have at least 30 people who where interested in it before the project was a go. You could use the argument that this was over a year ago, but the same amount of interest seem to hold true. Even if the forums don't see a lot of action, people usually talk to us over skype or web client about it.
I hope this answers your question. If not let me or Corruption know.

The way IoP was originally conceptualized was by asking the players what they desired when I worked on Sinfar's Isle of Dread. Eventually it became clear that the setting there, and the way that sinfar was set up conflicted with what we wanted to achieve, and for the sake of everyone's sanity (both ours and the players there) we opted to step out and make a separate server which Mavrixio was gracious enough to host.
If I had to be blunt however, it's evolved past that. At this point IoP is it's own monster, it's grown into something self-sustaining in the dev forums here. Our lore grows daily, and we've become set on a path. It's no longer at the point where we worry about who will complain about what; instead we've hit the point where we know, if we make something good, people will come.
And if they don't? They don't. The first thing you will ever learn in the business of creating a game, or a game setting, or a world for a game, is that you will never, ever, ever please everyone all the time, and you just have to accept that.
If we have 10 players, or 100 players, I'd say we succeeded just fine.

I'd venture to say the niche IoP tries to occupy is large enough that those who want it will flock to it. Many role players want the advanced customization that a social server offers without submitting to the static worlds they usually provide nor the community who tend to treat it like their personal sandbox. I fully expect there to be a lot of friction with players who come here with different expectations and didn't read into any of the information we provide. By nature of separating the player vault we will preemptively limit most of those who aren't interested in the type of setting this server, too. I also think the team is doing a good job at making sure people understand that this may be connected to Sinfar's infrastructure but does not subscribe to the Social Server category they do. As long as the proverbial signage is explicit enough to inform the player base what this server is all about I don't see there being any issues in retention.
As an experienced administrator I'm fairly confident in Corruption's vision of what this server could be. Many of the things that hold other servers back are obvious from a distance (not to say we won't have to deal with problems of our own!) so I hope that the team is self-aware enough to not get caught up in the bubble that tends to blind them to the community at large.
EDIT: And I will state that you should never be afraid to post your opinion. On the subject of self-awareness I would like to think all of us are aware of what an environment where people are afraid to post their opinions is like. That is not the type of community I don't believe any of us want to foster and no one should be 'afraid' to share their constructive criticism with the staff. We're all here to have fun, play a game, and enjoy ourselves; the last thing anyone should worry about is arbitrary 'punishment' for expressing their opinion.

Just to put in my two cents, I may not know about the NWN community at large, but I do know about those I talk with often. Of those I talk with I know of many who are wanting something like what it seems is being built here. While its always, somewhat, frustrating to wait for things (anyone with kids at christmas will understand this well) I also know how much is involved in making things like this and how much effort is needed to do it -right-. I believe that if the admin can pull off what they are hoping for then like Corruption says, regardless of the number of online players, it will be a success. Obviously numbers will spike, then fall off before leveling out again, but I truly believe that if the admin is open like they are now, that the server will be a success. Even if they hit a pitfall then, being open to feedback from their playerbase as I have seen so far, they will be able to self correct and go in a direction that is good for the majority of their base.
There has been a definite gap in offerings that are similar to what I have seen being created here and it is what I have specifically been looking for for quite a long time. Yes, there are other places that offer RP, yes there other places that offer character customizations, yes there are other places that offer this piece or that piece... but I have yet to find something that combines the disparate parts into a cohesive whole. Yes there will have to be compromises, there always are when working with multiple people or systems, but those are there to make the -whole- the best it can be.
I know that I, and a few I personally know, are eagerly awaiting the initial release and, if things go as they seem to be, I am fairly sure that there will be a good, stable, playerbase of some size.

I for one don't know many NWN 1 servers, or have played in the past 15 years, since I first played NWN 1 properly around late 2014. But I am excited for what the server has to offer. It's good to know there was this requirement of a playerbase interest for Mavrixio to host the server.
I was willing to try it either way, because the lack of a world that feels alive one can get from playing in a social server can become tiresome, IMHO. KittenFish has been asked too many times already about when the server will be ready by me. Guess I'll have to wait patiently.

We're still working diligently on it, however myself and Kittenfish are in the middle of a move. We sign our title on tuesday, then after that we move. I'd expect full time work to begin on it again as soon as we have internet.

I just recently returned to Sinfar after a 2 year absence and I learned about this server today. I just want to say this is exactly the type of server I've been wanting to see so you can count on +1 player. I'm very excited to see what you guys create. Now I'll just go wait in a corner over here until its released...

Now I'll just go wait in a corner over here until its released... Why wait in the corner? We very much need players to help us decide things like what kind of dungeons they would enjoy or what kind of areas they would like to see. It's important to know what the players would like. Even if you may think your idea is stupid, someone else may want something similar. However it is important to remember we can't please everyone. It's even harder to do so if we do not know what players want as well. So join the chats, comment on posts, or even write up an idea of your own. If you've got a talent for building then send me a pm. We are in desperate need of houses for the cities to help make them feel less empty.
