Section 0: What you can expect from Isles of Purgatory and it's Staff
The goal of Isles of Purgatory (IoP) is to provide a unique server setting for players to roleplay in, find immersion, develop their characters, and further their own goals as well as explore the server side story and shape the world around them. Players who are willing to work with the staff will be able to develop their own personal roleplay plots as well as change the world around them so long as they are able to achieve such feats.
IoP's Staff is dedicated to providing a friendly, but mature, open world for players to partake in. As a result, we ask that the community be welcoming and not overtly hostile. Staff actions and discussions on IoP will take place on hidden forums, but players who wish to make their own personal discussions with the staff transparent are welcome and encouraged to do so; there will be no hidden or secret staff actions here.
Above all else, a core setting will be maintained on IoP, giving players a world with concrete rules to interact with through in character actions. It will be up to the players to decide how their own stories interact with this central plot.
Section 1: OOC Rules
Staff Switching: Unless player requests or questions are simple, the Staff will take inquiries made to individual dungeon masters and discuss them with the entire team. In almost every case - the rest of the staff will already know about your question, so switching from DM to DM looking for a different answer will not get you a different answer. Players found to be doing this will be given a temporary ban (unless this is a repeat offense). Character Permadeath: In most cases, permadeath is ultimately up to the player. However there may be certain very dangerous DM events (or player choices of action) that will result in an explicit warning: "This choice of action may result in permanent death. Are you certain?" - Proceeding past this point means that if you die, and your corpse is unretrievable - your character is gone forever. Period. These cases will be quite rare and typically climatic in nature (all or nothing scenarios) and backing away from them will hold no out of character consequences from the staff running the event.
General Acceptable Behavior: This rule is a 'catch all' rule for general acceptable behavior on the server. Players are expected to be decent human beings - joking and oocly ribbing other players so long as it is in a friendly nature is fine, but if you are asked to stop you are expected to stop. Blatant trolling, death threats, or other comments of a similar nature will all be handled by a member of the Staff. There is a very low tolerance for this kind of behavior, while personal threats or encouraging self-harm is absolutely zero tolerance.
DM and Player Transparency: Staff actions taken against players will be made public as to enable the transparency of their rulings. There are no shadowbans on IoP: every person banned or punished will be made public so that there is never any confusion as to why a particular punishment was administered. This is not to act as a warning for the rest of the playerbase but to ensure that there is full accountability for the Staff at all times.
18+ Server: Isles of Purgatory is an 18+ server, period. Characters on the server need to be of a physically mature age (18+ for the race) and of a mature mindset (also 18+ in mental maturity).
Characters that act overtly like children, have child-like appearances, etc. will be removed and a ban will be issued. Players under the age of 18 will be banned until they are 18 years of age, however long that may be. Players willingly partaking in pedophilia roleplay on the server to any degree, will be permanently banned from the server, no exceptions, no warnings.
Dungeon Master Logins: Only accounts that are dungeon masters on the server may have any iteration of a DM title in their login name.
Invalid Appearances/Making oneself untargetable: Using null (blank) appearance numbers as a body or clothing option to make yourself mostly or entirely invisible, or using the emote system present in the game to hide yourself in the ground, in placeables, ect. is not acceptable. Players
who do such actions will be warned once, and given a ban if they repeat the action.
General Nonsense Clause: Character concepts may vary wildly on IoP, and we encourage players to submit character requests on the forums for approval to be played in game. However there is a certain limit to which a unique idea becomes immersion ruining and a distraction far beyond what can be considered acceptable. Players who purposely create unapproved concepts, or concepts that are seen as purposely distracting or immersion breaking will be asked to change the character. Noncompliance will result in the removal of the character from your account vault.
Character Remakes and Changing Builds: Characters are expected to retain one single build, more or less, through their time on IoP. All characters on IoP are level 20, and should not be roleplayed as being more powerful than that. (e.g. You cannot make a level 20 fighter, then in
game or in roleplay attempt to cast wizard spells as well because you're ‘also’ level 20 wizard. You aren't.) If a character wishes to change their build they are more than welcome to roleplay learning that new path and in time - change their character's levels. If you wish to try a radically different build or concept, and do not wish to do the time consuming roleplay to change in game, we encourage you to simply make a new character.
Multiboxing: Players on IoP are asked not to multibox, especially in PvP. Multiboxing, while typically not a problem, promotes an unfair standard by which to weigh a certain player's actions and will on an ooc level and leads ultimately to metagaming. Because of the inherent probability that multiboxing will lead to metagaming (even if not intended to be), players are asked not to multibox accounts. Even the most well intended multiboxing can cause issues. Players caught multiboxing will be asked to stop once - further multiboxing will result in disciplinary action.
Harassment (OOC): Players will not always get along and the Staff takes interplayer relations very seriously. We ask that our players act like the adults they are - and work out their differences without staff intervention whenever possible. However, in cases where action on the Staff is necessary, we will intervene in order to mediate the conflict. In all cases of dispute, try to have screenshots of the issue in question. Once a judgement has been passed down by the Staff, it is final. If players show a penultimate lack of ability to get along with their fellow players, despite being talked to by staff, they will be removed from the server. In almost every case it is in the player's' best interests to cut their losses and go separate ways without Staff intervention. Players who do not get along out of character will still be expected to, if brought together in character, remain immersed and roleplay to their best abilities and not let their ooc feelings influence in character interaction. This also means being mature enough to realize that it is in their best interests not to push in character interactions that would result in overexposure to players that might not want to deal with them.
Section 2: IC Rules
OOC Gameplay: A character is only considered out of character in the Out of Character lounge that can be reached via the !ooc command. Anywhere else in the game you are considered IN CHARACTER, regardless of what you are doing. Keep this in mind for your character actions. There is no "oocly assisting" a friend in getting gear, or being raised, ect. All actions are considered in character while you are in the game world.
Foreign Languages: All characters on IoP are expected to speak English (Common). If in time we add in language widgets, those may be used to replicate speaking a different character language.
4th Wall Breaking: Please keep breaking the 4th wall and references to modern pop culture etc. to a minimum. Chat acronyms (, k bbl) are absolutely forbidden, as are emoticons [=^)] in your chat.
PvP and Dice Fighting: IoP uses the NWN combat system for the vast majority of it's in game conflict, and will continue to do so in all occasions. If a player decides to roleplay fight, or dice fight, that is on their OWN accord, and should be done in private. Players have no server given right to request roleplay fights as opposed to pvp - this is a decision made between players.
Erotic Roleplay: Erotic Roleplay (ERP - otherwise known as sexually explicit roleplay) is not banned on IoP. However, it is not the main focus of the server. Players are asked to keep ERP between characters to private interactions. City squares are subject to decency laws that would prevent players from indulging in public sexual acts without repercussions from guards or players alike. If a guard NPC or a player sees fit, they are welcome to respond in character accordingly. Unlike our sister server Sinfar, constant sexually explicit themes are not the norm - sexually explicit things such as exposed genitals, non-standard genders or particularly lewd clothing is abnormal in the setting of IoP. Players meeting any of these criteria should expect to have the world around them react accordingly from NPCs and PCs alike.
Server Setting: IoP is a roleplay focused server, and because of this there is a set server setting that gives constraints to what one can expect in roleplay. As such, there are certain limits imposed on the following:
Exotic Races: Exotic PC Races (anything beyond the base nwn races) are expected to make a character bio in our application forum. You will be asked questions about your race and can expect the DM's approving your bio to test your ability to some degree to play this race. This is done to ensure special cases are kept extremely special, and that most races act as they should (e.g. Demons being CE, not LG, etc.). It also encourages players to focus on making a character interesting by their personality, attributes, and flaws and not by slapping a special race on a template and calling it a day.
Exotic Genders and Forms: Player Characters exhibiting genders beyond the binary norm can expect to be handled differently by the world around them. The setting of IoP holds that these are a rarity and will be treated as such in-game. Certain areas of the world may react differently to these types, but player characters are encouraged to react in a way that is appropriate to their character’s ideals and beliefs, be it positive or negative towards these exceptions to the norm. A certain amount of realism is expected in character sizes (or appendage sizes) on IoP - if you want a 10 foot sexual member, IoP may not be the server for you.
Classes: Characters are expected to play their classes as they are listed except in special cases. If you wish to play a class as anything but, please make a special concept character request in the Application subforum.
Traffic Lights (erp): Players are allowed to list lights in their bios for likes/dislikes if they so wish, though as mentioned before the primary purpose of IoP is not erp. However, being an 18+ server we accept that these things occasionally occur. As a note however, these lights are for ERP ONLY, and cannot be used to prevent IC interactions that are not sexual in nature. E.G. You cannot redlight PVP and then tell people they cannot attack you. Redlighting specific players is considered harassment and you will be told to remove the light from your bio. Refusal will result
in character deletion and a ban.
Section 3: Player and DM Rights and Responsibilities
A player retains the right to a formal server setting that will be followed by the community while in character. As a result of this, however, each player has the responsibility of remaining in character and promoting good roleplay.
A player retains no right to private housing. A player may find an abandoned house and claim it as their own in character, but this is only an in character claim.
Certain efforts might be taken through roleplay to attempt to make some places more reinforced (e.g. a player might work on a structure of an Inn to make it more secure for others to come to and use) - but there will never be invulnerable doors, or unpickable locks anywhere on the server (unless a door is not meant to be open yet [e.g. the area on the other side does not exist yet or is not finished]).
A player retains the right to fair and unbiased dungeon master team interactions. If a player believes they are being discriminated against they may take the argument up with the administrator (CorruptionOverwhelming).
Dungeon Masters reserve the right to enforce the rules, and hold the responsibility of being fair, unbiased, and to work to prevent favoritism.
Above all else, FAIRNESS is the #1 goal of IoP.
Dungeon Masters reserve the right of DM FIAT - meaning if a certain action is not necessarily against the rules (unlisted) but is causing a disruption, they may still ask a player to cease and desist. All instances of DM FIAT will be recorded and posted to the private forums under that player's name as a new thread. If a player wishes, all of their private forum threads may be made public for all to see. (see above).
Section 4: PvP Rules
Warm Up Timer: Players may not join in any PvP fight that is ongoing for 15 minutes upon logging in. This is to prevent counter logging and calling for offline reinforcements in battlegrounds. Once your 15 minutes are up, you may enter the battleground.
Battleground and Fort Areas: PvP in these areas is expected to happen and can at the drop of a hat. Players here can expect to be attacked at any moment and should be prepared for such occasions at all times.
Opposing Cities: The Cities of <Name 1> and <Name 2> are typically directly opposed to each other. Players from the opposite city can expect to be attacked if they go to the other city without good reason. However, <Name 3>, the neutral town, is a neutral area where pvp should not occur without some RP beforehand. Assaults in this city can be punished by player or (if there is any) npc guards and result in IC jail time.
Logging Off/"Crashing": NwN is certainly an unstable game and crashes happen, this is to be expected. However because of this any player who "crashes" in pvp, or logs off, must immediately leave the pvp area by any means possible when they return and wait the 15 minutes to head back in. The exception to this is if you are currently captured and neutralized in an enemy jail cell at the fort. In this case you may remain there.
Respawning: If you respawn from death in pvp you must adhere to the 15 minute warmup timer rule once more.
Assassinations: Players who wish to assassinate another individual should write up some form of a contract to give to the assassin ICly. Assassins have the responsibility of keeping track of who hired them to prevent ooc misunderstandings.
Defeat outside of a Warzone: Players are expected that upon being defeated in a town, that they will not re-engage in pvp for at least 15 minutes. Getting back up from being dropped (killed or ko'd with subdual) and fighting once more is an offense that will earn you ooc jail time or a temp ban (1-2 hours).
IC Consequences: Being captured or subdued can sometimes lead to unfortunate circumstances for a PC, that can often times be emotionally or physically scarring, or violating in nature. Players may redlight the specific roleplays for gore/violence reasons, but should be accepting of consequences from their actions. Players captured to the jail cells of a fort may engage in specific intimate roleplays if they wish, but have the right to deny such actions as well.
[Added note for torture, that if something bothers you please say something to all parties involved “BEFORE” things get too far out of hand. Please discuss however that some scars or something of the like may occur because of the act and should be roleplayed as needed. Torture is not something everyone can walk away from and be fine the next day.]
Size in PvP: Players using any size smaller than a halfing in pvp will be given a warning not to do so. Naturally occurring small sizes (badgers, pixies, etc.) do not count towards this rule so long as the shape change came from a spell/class ability like the polymorph spell or being a shifter, or being approved to play such a race in the first place. Players using any form to become difficult to target (null appearances or z shifted below the ground) will be given an immediate ban.
